JADE Poster Displayed at United Nations' Action for Climate Empowerment Session

In June 2024, JADE poster was featured at the United Nations' session on Action for Climate Empowerment (ACE), focusing on children and youth. This session was part of the 60th session of the subsidiary bodies held from June 3 to June 13, 2024, in Bonn, Germany. The ACE Gallery coincided with the expert dialogue on children and climate change on June 4, 2024, and the 2024 ACE Dialogue on June 8, 2024. The ACE Gallery aimed to spotlight activities supporting the Glasgow work programme, foster community within the ACE network, and encourage ongoing collaboration among various initiatives and programs.
The JADE poster at the ACE session had four main sections:
- Model LOPI (Learning by Observing and Pitching In): This section showed how the LOPI model, which involves learning through watching and participating, can be an effective method for climate education. It demonstrated practical examples of how children and youth can learn about caring for the environment through hands-on activities.
- Reduce and Reuse: This section focused on the importance of reducing waste and reusing materials. At the West Metro Asian Fair, which attracted more than 10,000 participants—40% of whom were youth—JADE introduced the Minimum Waste Event Initiative and plans to broadcast the concept to other community events.
- Cultural Way Stories: This section featured stories from diverse cultures, emphasizing sustainability and living in harmony with nature. Notable among them was a bilingual picture book exploring embodied echo grief by Peng, Gaohong, and Shuazong. JADE partnered with the creators to bring the story to life through community engagement, including live music and interactive sessions. These stories showcased the beauty of cultural diversity and promoted the importance of preserving traditional wisdom in promoting sustainability.
- GIS Storymap and Outdoor Activities: JADE collaborates with the University of Minnesota Twin Cities to educate Asian K-12 students through GIS StoryMap training, enhancing their visual and geographic communication skills for addressing social and environmental issues. Additionally, JADE organizes environmental engagement programs targeting families, including park and trail cleanups during nature walks. These initiatives foster community bonding and appreciation for nature, while also promoting intergenerational conversations on climate action. Through these efforts, JADE actively contributes to youth education and environmental stewardship.
JADE’s participation in this important event highlighted the organization’s commitment to climate education and youth empowerment. By showcasing their work on such an international platform, JADE hopes to inspire and connect with other groups dedicated to fostering a sustainable future. Through these collaborative efforts, JADE served as a bridge, providing a platform for knowledge exchange and community engagement, further enhancing its impact on environmental awareness and action.
